Connect a Dual Counter to a WattNode [ Read Responses | Return to the Index ]
Posted by Bill on Tuesday, 12 January 2010, at 12:01 p.m. Phil, I would appreciate it if you would audit my connection of my (Hobby Boards') Dual Counter to my WattNode. A diagram is below. I'm getting ready to hook up a WN (monitoring a solar PV system) to my remaining Dual Counter's channel. I'm wanting to ensure my connection is optimized for greatest pulse counting accuracy, and hence the request for assistance here. I'm particularly interested in a few things: 1. Is my pull-down resistor appropriately sized (noise, freq response, current draw considerations)? 2. Is my CAT3 cable sufficient for a 50 ft. WattNode to Dual Counter distance? 3. Are there any performance benefits to removing the battery and running the Dual Counter from the WEL's +5 VDC supply (other than avoiding the need to replace the battery every few years)? 4. Are there any other field installable components I should have in place? Many thanks! Best regards, Bill - WEL0043

This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house, that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling, geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use. The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results. We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a similar project. |
