It does depend what you are doing.
I just did a series of expressions where each one was based on the Accumulated value of the last, but my reason was that I was applying different types of accumulations... (not just hourly)
eg: I started with a power reading (LOAD) and so LOAD_D was the daily accumulated power.
I then created a new expression (DayPower) based on the LOAD_D value so I could apply the "L" accumulation to get the Last power reading of the day. So DayPower_D is the final power reading of the prior day.
I then created an expression called FiltDay based on DayPower_D so I could apply yet another accumulation (for getting a monthly filter) so I could get a monthly rolling average for daily-power-usage.
However, if you are just doing a lot of basic daily and montly accumulations with different scale factors or calculations, I'd definalty just use expressions based on the original live sensor. Double Hourly accumulations can cause trouble unless you really know what you're doing.
So... what are you realy trying to do? This may make it easier for us to answer...
